Well situated as a centre regardless of how you are traveling, Ayr has excellent travel connections whether it be by air, sea or land. There is an first class road network linking Ayrshire to all parts of the country. Glasgow is under an hour away via the A77/M77, Edinburgh in under 2 hours and links to the M74 and the south in an hour.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport with connections to various parts of the UK and Europe as well as Charter Flights to the Americas is 4 miles north of the town.
Glasgow Abottsinch Airport is approximately an hour away with an extensive network of air routes. The most direct method is by car, but there is a train service from Ayr to Paisley on the Ayr Glasgow line and either a bus or taxi from there to the airport.
P & O run a ferry service from Stranraer (Cairnryan) to Larne.
Stena Line also operate a ferry service from Stranraer (Cairnryan) to Belfast.
Rail Services throughout Scotland can be found on the ScotRail web site. There are direct services to Glasgow and Stranraer as well as connecting services from Glasgow to all parts of Scotland and England.
Bus services can be found on the Stagecoach Web site. There are services from Ayr throughout Ayrshire and the South of Scotland and Express services to Glasgow with interconnections to all Scottish cities and to south of the border.
